Brendan Shanahan wasn?t sure what to expect Monday night from his first game in more than eight months, according to an Associated Press report. Shanahan?s power-play goal 1:38 into the second period broke a scoreless tie and helped New Jersey beat Nashville 3-1 for its fourth straight victory.

Sharks Defeat Detroit In 6-5 Thriller

The Sharks hosted the Red Wings on Saturday night in San Jose in a battle of two of the best teams in the NHL. In a game with several lead changes, San Jose defeated Detroit 6-5. Ryane Clowe had four assists including the game-decider on a breakaway by Patrick Marleau that moved the score to 6-4. Marleau's goal followed another breakaway by Milan Michalek. Brian Rafalski scored for the Red Wings with just under two minutes remaining in the 3rd period, which pressed Evgeni Nabokov during the final seconds. San Jose converted two out of their three power play opportunities, while Detroit went 1-for-3. The Red Wings were unable to score at the beginning of the 3rd period with a man advantage following a scrum that occurred after the horn at the end of the 2nd period.

Flames Hand Sharks First Home Loss In 11 Months

Dion Phaneuf scored on a deflected shot with 3:57 to play, and the Flames handed the Sharks their first regulation home loss in 11 months, 3-2 Thursday night, as reported by the Associated Press. The Sharks hadn?t lost at home in regulation since last February 14, a span of 31 games. The streak matched the second-longest in NHL history.

Leafs And Canadiens Rivalry Takes On New Twist

The rivalry between the Canadiens and Maple Leafs added a Belarussian chapter on Thursday night, according to a Canadian Press report. Mikhail Grabovski of the Maple Leafs and Sergei Kostitsyn of the Canadiens tried for a second game in a row to get at each others throats near the end of Montreal?s 6-2 win at the Bell Centre. Grabovski said he expects to be suspended for shoving linesman Scott Cherrey while trying to get at Kostitsyn, who was also fighting off officials in an attempt to fight.

Canucks Beat Oilers In Sundin's Season Debut

Steve Bernier scored twice and added one assist, leading the Canucks to a 4-2 victory over the Oilers on Wednesday night in Mats Sundin?s debut, as reported by the Associated Press. Alex Burrows and Pavol Demitra also scored for Vancouver, and Jason LaBarbera stopped 23 shots. Sundin, playing in his first game in nine months, was on the ice for about 14 minutes. The 37-year-old former captain of the Maple Leafs was booed every time he touched the puck.

Canada Wins Gold Medal At World Junior Hockey Championships

Canada won its fifth straight gold medal at the world junior hockey championships on Monday night, beating Sweden in the final 5-1, according to an Associated Press report. The streak ties Canada?s record of five consecutive titles from 1993-97. Canada?s 15th gold at the world juniors also matched Russia/Soviet Union for the all-time lead.

Wings' Rally Caps Classic Win

Detroit won the Winter Classic on Thursday afternoon, roaring back from a two-goal deficit to score five unanswered goals and take a 6-4 win over Chicago. The Winter Classic still has to be considered a win for hockey and the city of Chicago. Historic Wrigley Field was seen a perfect host to a memorable game as 40,818 frozen fans watched the second Winter Classic -- and third outdoor game -- in NHL history.
